Frou-Frou was a site-responsive sound installation and performance made for the market estate hub in March 2010.
Artists: Joanna Austin, Kate Wiggs and Sonya Chenery
Title: Frou-frou: A Pleasure Garden Tour
Description:
The piece celebrates the historical nature of the site as a former pleasure garden where people from all walks of life came together to see and be seen and enjoy themselves. There is an audio tour and performance which combine and contrast historical and present day elements of outdoor social events including masquerade balls, fairgrounds, music, dog fights and promenading. This work aims to create a disorientating experience which disturbs stereotypical views of the present day market estate.
